A Halifax woman is shocked and angry after her WWII veteran father had his new car’s back window smashed.
Susan Cotie said she’s pretty sure it was drunken college students and she’s had enough with the damage done to their 100-year-old home on Robie Street.
Cotie told News 95.7 it was 1 a.m. Sunday morning when she heard a loud noise which sounded like a boom.
“So I laid there for a few seconds thinking, ‘What was that?’ and that’s when I head somebody exclaim, ‘Holy expletive!’ and they were laughing, it was two or three male voices, and then I heard them running,” she said.
The next morning, Cotie woke up and found her 93-year-old father’s three month old car with its back window smashed by a large rock from her stone wall.
She said her father is a decorated war vet who escaped death twice, and he was saddened by the damage.
“When I saw the look on his face, it was a combination of confusion and ‘What the heck is this supposed to mean?” she said.
She said every year they experience vandalism to their property, but the attack on her father’s car is the last straw.
Cotie took a picture of the damage, combined it with a photo of her father Dan with a description of what happened and put it online.
The picture has gone viral and has had more than 3,000 shares.
She said she’s shocked by the reaction it’s received, which includes offers from a shop to fix the damage for free.
