Fire engulfs building on Lunenburg waterfront

More than a dozen fire crews were called to a burning building on the Lunenburg waterfront Friday night.
16 fire departments along the south shore were called in to battle the fire which engulfed a three-storey building on Montague Street near the Foodland building.
RCMP Corporal Scott MacRae says police were called to the Scotia Trawler building at 7:21 p.m.
“Just a reminder to the public, when we have scenes like this where police assist fire departments, you have to remain clear of the fire fighting equipment and try to avoid the area so emergency personal can respond to it,” explained MacRae. “Sometimes it becomes an event in the community. People get into their cars and want to see what’s going on, but that just causes traffic issues and often police have to be called in to assist local fire departments.”
There are no reports of injuries and it took crews about four hours to get the fire under control. The Bluenose replica was not affected. No word yet on what caused the blaze.
