Group wants abortion to be election issue

A group of pro-life Nova Scotians are holding a rally outside of the provincial legislature at noon today to try and make abortion an election issue.

They say it’s a taxpayer-defense issue.

Campaign Life Coalition Nova Scotia president Ellen Chesal told News 95.7 the $2-million of taxpayer money used to fund abortions annually would be better spent in other areas of the healthcare system.

“There are many autistic children out there that families need help with and they get absolutely no support,” she said. “You can go in and get a tooth extracted and have to pay up to $5-hundred if it’s complicated.”

“I think one penny of my tax dollars is too much to pay for aborting a baby,” she argued.

Chesal added we don’t hear about the issue as much in Canada because we’re “marshmallows.”

“We don’t really know our rights, and don’t want to get involved,” she said. “This is the point of the rally, to make people aware just where our tax dollars can go and the fact that abortion is not a medically necessary procedure.”

Today’s rally is part of a multi-province Defund Abortion campaign that also includes rallies in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.
