Advance voting up 66 per cent over 2009

More than 100,000 people have already cast their ballot in the provincial election.
Dana Doiron with Elections Nova Scotia says that’s about a 66 per cent increase over the number of voters who cast an advance ballot back in the 2009 election.
Doiron says he’s hopeful overall voter turnout on Tuesday will at least match the 58 per cent who came out to vote in 2009.
“Keeping our fingers crossed that it’s a good day, that the people who want to vote get out to vote, and we fell somewhat comforted that 100,000 have already taken that opportunity,” said Doiron.
Doiron isn’t predicting how many people might come out to vote tomorrow, but admits the rain in the forecast could affect the numbers.
“With the weather, nobody knows what really will be the impetus to either go out and vote or stay home,” said Doiron.
Polling stations are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
All votes will be counted after the polls close. Doiron says results will start to roll in as early as 8:10 p.m. at electionsnovascotia.ca.
