Fire destroys abandoned home in North Preston

A fire has destroyed an abandoned home in North Preston.

Acting division commander Brad Connors from Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency says they were called to Smith Lane at 8:30 p.m.

“We don’t put anybody inside a structure like that, so we fought from the outside,” explained Connors. “Eventually the fire collapsed the building. We’re bringing in a machine to tear apart the pile and extinguish the hidden fires which have been there all night.”

The blaze was extinguished around midnight.

“It was a single family residence,” added Connors. “The building is a total loss.”

Connors says it’s too early to tell if the fire is suspicious. There were no injuries and no damage to nearby homes. The cause is still under investigation.
