The IWK hosted its 2013 Annual General Meeting at the health centre on Wednesday morning, releasing its latest report to the community.
President and CEO Anne McGuire says the needs of a highly specialized health centre like the IWK is always changing.
“And the standards of care are consequently always improving,” explained McGuire. “It’s our goal not only to keep up, but exceed expectations and to provide the Maritimes and beyond with world class care.”
This year was marked by much challenge and change, but also significant progress and achievement, McGuire says.
She adds the IWK is proud to be in the role of advocate and the voice for women and children’s health in the region, and believes that’s why our new government recognizes the IWK as unique and why the health centre sees its role as distinct.
“Having said that, we look forward to growing many more partnerships,” said McGuire. “With a view of having a regional approach to the needs of women and kids.”
Other highlights of Wednesday’s meeting included a presentation by Dr. Bruce Crooks, a local Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist at the IWK who biked across the country in the 2013 Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.
