Fire damages Dairy Queen in Cole Harbour

A fire has caused significant fire and smoke damage to a Dairy Queen in Cole Harbour.

Division commander Mike Blackburn from Halifax Regional Fire says they were called to a strip mall at 1038 Cole Harbour Road at 1:18 Sunday morning.

“Upon arrival, the crews were faced with a fire inside the building,” explained Blackburn. “It’s a small strip mall. The fire was contained to the end unit, which is the Dairy Queen.”

Blackburn says the fire did not extend into the other two occupancies, which is a debt and credit counselling office and a hair salon. Blackburn says they treat all fires as suspicious until proven otherwise.

“We received a call from police about the fire,” added Blackburn. “They had received an intrusion alarm and upon arrival they discovered there was a fire inside the building.”

Blackburn says it didn’t take crews long to put out the blaze. There is security guarding the scene today. No one was hurt and the fire is under investigation.
