Decision in SWN Resources court injunction expected today

MONCTON, NB–A decision will be handed down today in Moncton Court on whether or not SWN Resources will get an indefinite extension on its court injunction.

During Friday’s hearing,  the province was granted intervener status, and now will be able to sit at the table while litigations are going on.

Ann Pohl, is one of the protesters named in the court injunction.  She feels she has the right to protest.

“This injunction is a violation of human rights.  It impinges on me and nine other named parties as well as whoever john and Jane doe are.  It impinges on our right to freedom of opinion, freedom to associate and freedom to assembly.  I’m not going to take it lying down.  I’m going to wait and see what the judge says, but I have the right to protest.  We have been talking to the government for three years now and the government isn’t listening to us.  Our last port of call is here.”

A protest turned violent on Thursday last week, when RCMP enforced a court injunction.  Six police cars were torched and at least 40 people were arrested.

Protesters had blocked roads and also a compound where SWN Resources equipment was being stored for three weeks.
