Fire destroys home in Lake Echo

A fire has badly damaged a split-entry home in Lake Echo.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency were called to 122 Thomas Street at 12:20 a.m. Saturday morning. Division Commander Chuck Bezanson says crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes.

“There was significant damage to the lower level of home, it was basically consumed by the fire,” explained Bezanson. “The upper floors and attic space received a significant amount of smoke and heat damage.”

The Canadian Red Cross says it’s providing food and shelter for the two people who lived in the home.

Bezanson says the cause of the fire is under investigation and no one was hurt.

“We don’t believe anyone was home at the time of the fire,” added Bezanson.
