Community group making second offer to HRM for former shcool

A circle of community groups are bringing a second offer to HRM to purchase the former St Patrick’s Alexandra School.

The group gathered the community together to let them know finances have been secured and the application is being submitted.

North Central Community Council Spokesperson Dr Rhonda Britton said she can’t disclose the details of the offer.

“All we know is the city is allowed to sell to non-profits for less than market value but we can not disclose the price that we have offered for the site,” said Britton.

The centre would become the new home of the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, the Preston Centre for Excellence and the North End Community Health Clinic to name a few.

Britton said the site will also offer commercial space and affordable housing.

HRM agreed to sell the former school to Jono Developments Ltd. for $3 million about three years ago but the sale was over-turned in court because the city didn’t follow it’s own policies.
