SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Over two years after Richard Oland was found dead in his uptown office, Dennis Oland, the son of the Saint John businessman, has been arrested.
The 45-year old will officially be charged in his father’s murder this afternoon in provincial court.
More details about the arrest are expected to be released at a press conference this morning.
City councillor Bill Farren doesn’t believe the length of the investigation will leave a black mark on the reputation of the Saint John Police Force.
“It was a bit more complex than normal. The police needed to make sure they did their due diligence on this case and do it properly. There were people who called me complaining about the length of the investigation but sometimes, things move slow.”
In a statement from the Oland family, Dennis’ uncle, Derek Oland, says the family believes Dennis is innocent, and will support him through whatever legal actions unfold.
Richard Oland was found dead in his uptown office July 7th, 2011.
Court documents have revealed that police believe the motive behind the murder was financial.
