Fire that killed Halifax senior deemed accidental

Major crime investigators say a fatal fire in north-end Halifax was an accident.

Firefighters pulled Daniel Maclennan, 92, unconscious from the burning home in the 3600 block of Acadia Street on the afternoon of October 24. He was pronounced dead in hospital.

The Medical Examiner has determined that the senior died from smoke inhalation.

A 49-year-old man was arrested later that evening in relation to the fire and was later released without charges.

Now investigators, with the help of HRM Fire, say the fire started in the kitchen of the residence and it has been determined to be accidental.
