Energy minister has concerns about Maritime Link project

Nova Scotia’s energy minister is expressing fresh reservations about the 1.5-billion-dollar Maritime Link project ahead of a crucial round of public hearings.
Andrew Younger says he shares some of the misgivings held by advocates who speak for the province’s consumers and small businesses.
Energy company Emera wants to build a subsea cable to Newfoundland, which would allow Nova Scotia’s electric utility to buy energy from the Muskrat Falls hydroelectric plant in Labrador.
However, the minister says he’s reluctant to say what worries him about the latest proposal from Emera, which would see Nova Scotia ratepayers footing the bill for the megaproject.
Younger says government lawyers will have plenty of questions for Emera when the hearings start today.
He says Nova Scotia’s Liberal government will deliver its assessment during closing statements, which could come as early as Friday or Monday.
