Sackville wins despite loss

SACKVILLE, N.B. – The Mount Allison Mounties may have lost to Laval in the Uteck Bowl yesterday but the town of Sackville was a winner.

Excitement was in the air as MacAulay Field in Sackville played host to roughly 4,000 football fans – nearly double the town’s population.

The first-ever Bowl game played on the Sackville campus lived up to its billing as a battle of David versus Goliath early on, but the surprise Atlantic University Sport conference champions refused to go down without a fight.

Defending national champion Laval beat Mount Allison 48-21 but the Mounties’ 21 points were the second most scored this year against the best defensive unit in the country.

Laval advances to the Vanier Cup and will host Calgary on November 23.
