Renewed calls to limit bar hours

The rowdy behavior downtown can be attributed to longer hours at some establishments said The Chief of Halifax Regional Police Jean-Michel Blais.
“When you limit the bar hours, and I’m not talking about limiting when they open but rather when they close, you also have a direct and positive effect on the amount of crime that results following the closing of those bar hours”, said Blais.
A few bars downtown have special licences that allow them to stay open until 3:30 AM and Blais wants to reduce those hours to two.
Blais said the reduction in hours in one solution to problems with drunkenness and violence downtown.
