Small businesses are expressing concern over Canada Post’s decision to eliminate door-to-door mail delivery.
The crown corporation also announced earlier this week stamps will be going up to a dollar.
A spokesperson for the Canadian Federation of Independent Business said small business owners see the move to community boxes as an inevitable money saving step.
Erin McGrath-Gaudet said small businesses see the increase from 63 cents to a dollar for a stamp as the real threat.
“Because they are big users of Canada Post, that’s a significant cost that they are going to have to deal with and I imagine that you will see a lot of small businesses looking for some of those alternatives,” said McGrath-Gaudet.
She said it might not be a smart move for Canada Post to raise costs at a time when user ship is on the decline.
