Halifax Regional Municipalities Mayor is reflecting on what the city was able to accomplish in 2013, as it comes to a close.
One of the municipalities’ newest additions this year was the implementation of snow removal on side walks on the peninsula.
Mike Savage said HRM’s new side walk snow clearing responsibilities can be reviewed by council, but he said that should only come after one full winter season.
“Our first storm this year was a particularly difficult one and it caused a lot of different challenges for our snow and ice removal folks,” said Savage.
He added both councillors on the peninsula were not in favour of the added responsibility and are now fielding complaints from their constituents.
“The operations of a municipality are very close to people and when you talk about snow clearing, roads, and pot holes and things like that, it affects people very directly,” said Savage.
