Metro Transit to get complete overhaul

Metro Transit is getting a complete overhaul for the first time in more than twenty years.

HRM’s Committee of the Whole has accepted a recommendation to change the scope from a tweak of the existing plan to a complete system review.

Metro Transit’s planning manager Dave Regae told News 95.7 the timing is right.

“We have a public ready for change, sounds like we have a council ready for change.  This is the opportunity to make some very big changes to the transit system,” said Regae.

According to Regae, the system is expected to be completely ready to go by 2016 with a few milestones in between, in terms of public consultation.

The project will cost HRM $490,000.
