UNB professors on strike, classes suspended

Classes have been suspended at the University of New Brunswick, due to a strike.
Professors withdrew their services at 12:01am.
This forced the suspension of all classes, with the exception of some online courses and some classes in Miramichi.
In a statement, UNB said it remains committed to achieving a new collective agreement that serves the broad interests of students and the university community and that improves the current contract with faculty.
Working conditions and wages at other universities of a similar size are the key sticking points in negotiations.
The Association of University of New Brunswick teachers represents over a thousand full-time and contract academic staff and librarians at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, Saint John, Moncton, and Bathurst.
Student Representative Council President Ashley Macosky says this is incredibly disappointing. She says it’s unfair to the students, due to the uncertainties, because no one knows how long the strike will last and how it will impact the students academics.
