Strong support for CFL franchise in Halifax : poll

A new survey shows strong support in Halifax for a Canadian Football League franchise

The study, released by Corporate Research Associates, shows that just under half of the people surveyed were likely to attend at least one regular season game if a team sets up shop in HRM.

Chairman and CEO Don Mills told News 95.7 the data shows that there would be enough fans in the stands from Halifax alone to make the venture a success.

“There’s been a lot of talk about a football team in Halifax for a long time and the need for the team to be able to draw from across the Maritimes in order to make it work.  What we’ve determined from our research is that there’s sufficient support within the municipality alone to make it work which is really good news,” said Mills.

The CFL commissioner Mark Cohon told a Halifax audience earlier this week that he believes a model based on the new Ottawa franchise would work in the city, which would need a stadium.

Cohon did say that the team in the nation’s capital took a full 7-years to become a reality.

The Ottawa RedBlacks will kick off their inaugural season this summer.
