Marine Atlantic to hike Nova Scotia/Newfoundland ferry fee

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The government of Newfoundland and Labrador says it’s concerned that a fee hike by Marine Atlantic will harm its economy.

The federal Crown agency has announced a three per cent increase over last year’s rates.

Tourism Minister Terry French says the increase could harm the province’s tourism sector as well as businesses that depend on Marine Atlantic to ship goods.

The new fees take effect April 1.

Marine Atlantic runs two ferry routes, one from North Sydney, N.S., to Port aux Basques, N.L., and another from North Sydney, N.S., to Argentia, N.L.
