Winter storm wallops Nova Scotia

Another winter storm is moving across Nova Scotia today bringing a mixed bag of precipitation including snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and rain along with strong winds.

Environment Canada says as the storm moves out, a rapid drop in temperatures is forecast which will likely cause hazardous conditions as wet surfaces freeze.

Strong westerly winds will spread across the province in the wake of the system with gusts between 90 and 110 km/h expected.

Higher than normal water levels and large pounding waves can be expected along the Atlantic coast, especially during high tide this morning and waves will be larger east of Halifax.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents to be extremely careful if they have to travel today with icy streets and sidewalks being reported.

Police are advising motorists to slow down if they need to be on the roads and pedestrians and cyclists are urged to be equally cautious when traveling today.

The storm is tracking across Nova Scotia this morning and is heading toward Newfoundland.
