Roommates charged with planned murder of Loretta Saunders

Police confirm first degree murder charges are being laid in the death of Loretta Saunders.

The two people already charged with stealing her car are now accused of murdering her.

“She was killed in her apartment in Halifax,” said RCMP Insp. Trish MacCormack. “We believe it occurred on February 13. I can confirm that the three were living together as roommates.”

Victoria Henneberry, 28, and Blake Leggette, 25, are in custody and will be in court Friday to each face a charge of first degree murder.

“Our investigation has indicated that this was a planned crime, and that’s the rationale for laying first degree murder charges,” said Insp. MacCormack.

The 26-year-old Saint Mary’s University student was reported missing, having last been seen in Halifax on February 13 in the Cowie Hill Road area where she lived. Her car was found a week and a half ago in southern Ontario. Her body was located Wednesday in a highway median west of Moncton, New Brunswick.

An autopsy will take place in the coming days. Police have declined to say how Saunders was killed or what specifically led them to the location of her remains.
