Foreign students could boost Nova Scotia’s economy

A local pollster is trying to raise awareness about the overall health of Nova Scotia’s economy.
Speaking to business leaders at a Halifax Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Don Mills with Corporate Research Associates says Nova Scotia should become an educator for the world.
Why don’t we just open it up? Why don’t we turn the taps on and bring as many foreign students as we can get into this province,” explained Mills. “There is great economic benefit, every student that we bring into this province spends $28,000 a year,” said Mills.
He said the students add $190 million dollars to our economy every year, and research has found that about 60 percent of them would like to stay here when they graduate.
Mills believes Nova Scotia should double or triple the amount of foreign students that are recruited.
