Nova Scotians have longest wait for knee and hip replacements

A new report says Nova Scotians are still waiting longer for knee and hip replacement surgery than patients living anywhere else in the country.

The study by the Canadian Institute for Health Information says about 58 per cent of people get the operation for a hip implant within the national six-month target, while only 43 per cent receive a new knee in that span of time.

Half of those needing new knees in Nova Scotia waited seven-and-a-half months, while half of waiting Manitobans got knees in about five months.

The data indicates that about half of people in Nova Scotia are waiting two-and-a-half weeks longer to get a new knee.
