Nova Scotia man declared dangerous offender for sexual assault of young woman

HALIFAX – A Nova Scotia man who sexually assaulted a woman in Halifax four years ago has been declared a dangerous offender.

Twenty-five-year-old Robert Thomas Crowe was sentenced Tuesday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Halifax.

Justice Heather Robertson imposed a 10-year prison sentence but gave Crowe six years’ credit for his time on remand, leaving him with four years to serve.

The judge ordered Crowe to complete a high-intensity sexual offender treatment program while in the federal prison system.

He’ll be subject to a long-term supervision order in the community for 10 years after his prison term expires.

Crowe was found guilty at trial in March 2012 of sexual assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement, breaching probation and violating the conditions of a peace bond.
