Bluenose II spending limit undefined – sailing date unknown

HALIFAX – The restoration of Bluenose II has gone over-budget and sailed past its due date, and costs for it could continue to climb up to $24 million.

Deputy premier Diana Whalen said right now, there’s no cap on the spending, but they will be looking carefully at all the money being put into it, moving forward.

“We will be absolutely scrutinizing all the costs as they go forward, and I know there are some that will probably be in dispute,” she said. “We’ll see where that goes, but right now what we want to do is make sure that what we’ve invested to date is going to come to fruition and be successful.”

Whalen said she is waiting to get the auditor general’s report on the file, and adds that the primary concern is getting the project finished.

“The project’s important to Nova Scotians, and we’re committed to see it through.”

Right now, there is no date for Bluenose II to set sail.
