EMO offers tips on preparing for Arthur

Hurricane Arthur is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to the Maritimes tomorrow.

Tracey Barron, spokesperson for Nova Scotia’s Emergency Management Office, told News 95.7 there are some things Haligonians can do now to prepare for possibly of power outages, including having a battery powered radio on hand.

“One of the most important things is to get those local updates so you know what to expect,” said Barron.  “It’s a good idea to fill up your bathtub as well, for flushing or washing and having that additional water supply on hand.”

She also said there are some things that can be done to minimize potential damage to homes.

“Look around your yard and see if there’s anything that the wind can grab, such as lawn chairs, trash cans and hanging plants that can easily be picked up by the wind,” she said.  “If there’s any branches laying around, or any diseased or dead limbs on the trees, it would be good to remove those.”

Barron recommended having 72-hours of food and water on hand, a full gas tank for your car, and cash in your wallet.
