Lyle Howe expected in court today

Suspended Halifax lawyer Lyle Howe returns to court this afternoon.

According to The Chronicle Herald, Howe wants to be freed from custody pending the appeal of his conviction.

Howe was found guilty by a jury of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in March of 2011.

He testified before the Nova Scotia Supreme Court that he had consensual sex with the woman, but the crown argued she was impaired and did not give consent.

He was sentenced to three years in a federal prison.
