It’s been a legal tug-of-war between the Nova Centre developers and a provincial heritage group, but it seems the dust has settled on both sides.
The Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia had originally wanted to challenge Argyle Developments Inc. in court, however, yesterday, that application was withdrawn.
Not many details were made public about how the parties settled the legal dispute, but in a news release, president of Argyle Developments, Joe Ramia, said they’re pleased to have the legal proceedings behind them.
Ramia also said his company is “satisfied by the statement made by Heritage Trust regarding their mandate.”
Earlier in the year, the trust had argued the new Nova Centre design was too big and would violate Halifax’s historic views.
Argyle Developments had fired back, filing suit against the trust in Nova Scotia Supreme Court, with Ramia arguing the group had done everything it could to delay and eliminate the construction of the centre.
The Nova Centre, which has a price tag of about $500-million, is expected to be done late next year.
