NB plane crash victims named

The names of a pilot and paramedic killed in an air ambulance plane crash in Grand Manan, New Brunswick have been released.

The ambulance service has identified William Mallock of Grand Manan as the paramedic who died, adding he had more than two decades in the service.

Klaus Sonnenberg has been identified as the pilot who died. He also owned Atlantic Charters, which operates the aircraft.

Local MLA Rick Doucet, who represents the riding of Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West, told Global News everyone in the community is puzzled as to what happened.

“It’s good that the investigators are here to determine what happened, but I’ll tell you something — Klaus was a really good pilot. He knew his stuff,” Doucet said.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has sent investigators to Grand Manan Island to assess the crash.

A spokesperson at Ambulance New Brunswick says it’s too early to say what caused the crash.

A second pilot and a nurse on board survived.
