Halifax Regional Police are warning businesses to be on the lookout for fake American bills.
Police say since last Wednesday, there have been at least 10 reported cases of large purchases being made with counterfeit U.S. $50 bills.
Police spokesperson Cst. Pierre Bourdages told News 95.7 some of the purchases made were in the thousands of dollars.
“We have a large amount of these counterfeit $50 bills currently being used in the city,” said Bourdages.
Bourdages said investigators believe the cases are connected.
“We currently are in the process of pulling video surveillance and other things to make sure we stop the individuals that are responsible,” he said.
The Financial Crime Unit said business owners should take a close look at all cash before accepting it, and Bourdages recommended going to the U.S. Secret Service website for more information on what to look for.
Anyone with who believes they have come into possession of a fake bill is asked to contact police at 902-490-5020.
