New Democrat MP Peter Stoffer has announced he will reoffer in the next election, despite rumours of his retirement.
Stoffer made the announcement this morning in Ottawa alongside NDP leader Tom Mulcair, he will be seeking the nomination for a new riding in 2015.
“Although at the beginning of the last campaign, I had every intention of leaving, I’m announcing today that I’ll be seeking the nomination for the new riding of Sackville-Preston-Chezzetcook,” said Stoffer.
He said he thinks there’s a change in government on its way, and added he wants to be a part of it.
“The last election when I ran, I had indicated that this would probably be my last one. But over the summer, my wife and I, with many, many people across the country have been calling me on a regular basis and have stated quite clearly that they’d like to see me do it again.”
Stoffer is the Official Opposition Critic for Veterans Affairs and has been in office since 1997.
He is originally from the Netherlands and is also former NDP critic for Fisheries and Oceans, Shipbuilding, National Defence, Seniors, Canada Post Corporation, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and Amateur Sport.
He made this morning’s announcement before the NDP caucus meeting in Ottawa.
