“Things have changed” since Holly Bartlett case, chief says

Regional Police say they will make better use of social media as an investigative tool, after a review of the Holly Bartlett case.

Bartlett died after being found under the MacKay Bridge in 2010.

Police are responding to a review by Quebec City police that listed a number of shortfalls, including the fact investigators only checked Bartlett’s computer and Facebook account recently — when it should have been done in the first hours of the investigation.

Regional Police Chief Jean-Michel Blais tells Global News the force has already addressed many of the suggestions.

“This is an incident that occurred four-and-a-half years ago, and things have changed in our investigative processes since then,” said Blais.

Police say their capacity to analyze social media and computers is much stronger now.

The department also says in light of the report, they will do all they can to make sure no unconfirmed information is ever provided to victims’ families.
