A 70-year-old man from Prospect has been confirmed dead after a large truck ran him over on Mills Dr. near Exhibition Park last night.
According to RCMP Sgt. Mike Lidstone, the driver of the truck wasn’t even aware he hit anyone when he was making a turn into an industrial area off Prospect Rd.
“He was driving a large tractor-trailer and he felt something and he got out of his truck and he saw that there was a person on the road,” he said. “It wasn’t until after he ran over him that he realized, this was a person.”
He says the man was lying down on the road and was wearing dark clothing.
Investigators are still trying to piece together details of the accident, including the cause of death.
“Perhaps the person fell and was lying on the road, or might have been in medical distress, we’re not really sure,” said Lidstone. “We’ll make a determination after everything’s put together.”
The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 6:10 p.m.
