School bus goes into ditch in Eastern Passage

A CSAP school bus carrying 15 students went into a ditch off Cow Bay Road near Cherylann Drive in Eastern Passage just before 7:30 a.m. today.

RCMP Corporal Greg Church said the bus slid into a ditch on its right-hand side, blocking the main door.

The fire department used a ladder to help the children exit the bus through an emergency window.

Diane Racette, Regional Director for CSAP’s central region told News 95.7 as per protocol, an ambulance was called in to check over all the students and all parents were notified.

She said one student complained of a hurt ankle.

“The parent of that student took the child home and all the other kids were sent to school on another bus,” said Racette.

RCMP said the driver also sustained a minor injury.

Roads were slippery at the time, following a yesterday’s snowstorm.

Racette said CSAP will be in contact with Stock Transportation throughout the day to evaluate road conditions before the kids board buses for their ride home this afternoon.
