Halifax region digging out after another winter storm

The city is digging itself out of yet another dumping of snow.

Superintendent of snow operations, Darrin Natolino, told the Rick Howe Show plows and salt trucks have been on the roads since the snow started coming down yesterday.

“The blowing snow is really what will be our challenge today,” he said. “We’ll open a street up and two or three hours down the line, it’ll blow right back in. So, it’s going to be an ongoing thing for us for the next 24 to 48 hours.”

Natolino said most main roads in Halifax have been plowed, and about half of the side streets have been cleared as well.

While the snow clearing continues, Const. Pierre Bourdages is urging all drivers to slow down on the roads.

“We had a very long commute last night. It took some people two or three hours to get home, and we had a number of collisions yesterday 20 I believe, between 3 p.m. and midnight. But hopefully everything goes well today.”

According to News 95.7’s meteorologist, Richard Zurawski, we can expect another couple centimetres of the white stuff on Thursday.

In the wake of the big storm, Canada Post has even cancelled mail delivery across the province.

The city has also enforced the overnight parking ban this evening, so remember to get your vehicles off the streets between 1 – 6 a.m.
