Temperature plummets across the Maritimes

It’s one of the coldest mornings of the year.

Our meteorologist Richard Zurawski said we’re waking up to a temperature of around -20, which feels like -35 with the windchill.

An extreme cold warning remains in effect for the region and Zurawski said a number of your loved ones should take caution in this weather.

“Little kids are very vulnerable to it because they’ve got such small bodies,” said Zurawski.  “Also the elderly, it’s surprising at how quickly you can get cold, get hypothermia and frostbite.”

Zurawski added pets are also at risk, especially if they spend most of their time indoors.

He said the cold snap won’t last long, tomorrow will be above freezing again.

“We’re looking at temperatures probably hitting between 5 and 8 degrees, and we’re looking at some rain,” said Zurawski.

Unfortunately that won’t last long either, temperatures will drop again after the low pressure system passes.
