It’s been out of the limelight for a while now, but the students involved in the infamous Dalhousie dentistry Facebook scandal have posted an open letter on the university’s website.
The letter outlines the steps being taken in the restorative justice process, which 29 men and women are taking part in.
Of those 29, 12 are members of the sexually-violent Facebook group, 6 are women the posts were made about, and 11 are men and women from the directly affected class.
In the letter, the students say both the immediate harms and broader issues are being tackled in the restorative justice process, including taking ownership of the misogynistic posts, while continuing to work towards a greater understanding of the issues on a broader spectrum.
They also ask that their privacy and right to pursue the process off the public stage be respected, adding, “The constant public attention has been harmful and even sometimes threatening to us, our families and friends.”
