More winter weather hitting Halifax today

The month of February turned many Haligonians into winter warriors, and, if today’s weather is any indication, it looks like we’ll continue to earn a few more stripes in March.

News 95.7’s meteorologist Richard Zurawski said we can expect about 10 centimetres of snow today, with wind gusts of up to 50 kilometres an hour.

“Temperatures will get up to about two degrees, so it’ll be wet snow,” he said. “Then overnight, it looks like things are going to clear and temperatures are going to plummet, so the wet snow is going to freeze.”

Zurawski warned the winds will be causing whiteout conditions throughout the day.

“What we’re looking at is a low-pressure system tracking through, so we’re going to get snow throughout the day and then taper off this evening, but the winds will continue and the temperatures will fall.”

Halifax Regional Police have issued a winter weather advisory, asking drivers to be mindful of the road conditions, and slow down well in advance of red lights and stop signs.

Just last month alone, the city’s overnight parking ban was enforced almost twice as many times as it was last year.
