Daylight Saving Time starts this weekend

When you wake up and smell the coffee this weekend, make sure you’re not an hour behind, as Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday.

News 95.7’s Richard Zurawski said that extra hour of lost sleep does has an effect on the body.

“We have circadian rhythms that determine how awake we are when we perform certain functions,” he said.

Zurawski said people who work jobs that involve heavy machinery or dealing with emergency situations risk making deadly mistakes because of the added fatigue.

He added short term lack of sleep can make also us vulnerable to colds or even falling asleep at the wheel, but there are some ways to prepare for the lost hour.

“Make sure you get lots of sleep, and if you’re able to push your clock around a bit, then do so,” Zurawski said.  “Also exercise helps, getting some sunlight and light goes a long way as well.”
