Reservists to get increased benefits

Starting April 1, the federal government is going to give veteran reservists access to the same benefits and support as full-time Canadian Forces members.
Veterans Affairs Minister Erin O’Toole said reservists should be treated the same way as regular Forces members for service to their country.
“In terms of financial security, it means part-time veterans of the Reserve Forces in receipt of earnings loss benefit will be eligible for a minimum earnings loss benefit of over $42,000 annually.”
That $42,000 is the same base level as the Regular Force.
O’Toole said it’s about respect.
“Today is about a day where we celebrate the commitment of our Reserve Forces, and for me as minister, to tell you, I’ve got your six.”
Reservists made up more than 25 per cent of Canada’s mission to Afghanistan.
