Students will have class Friday as Assessment Day rescheduled

The Halifax Regional School Board sets aside an Assessment Day at the end of each term for teachers to put together report cards.

The March Assessment Day is usually a day off for elementary and junior high students, however Friday’s Assessment Day for Primary to Grade 9 students has been put off until June.

The Board’s spokesperson Doug Hadley told The Sheldon MacLeod Show it’s time to get the students back in the classroom and focus on learning.

“We just feel that the number of cancellations that we’ve had in the last two months, factored in that we’ve just had March Break and Easter is coming up in a week, the continuity of learning is what we’ve considered and what’s important here,” said Hadley.

He added it will be a bit of a challenge for teachers to get report cards done.

“We’ve told schools that we can push back the issuance of those report cards to the following week which will give teachers a bit more time,”  he said.  “We’ll also give them more time to complete their June report cards at the end of the school year when everything is a mad dash to get everything done.”

Friday’s Assessment Day has been rescheduled for June 26th.

All HRSB schools are expected to be open today with one exception, the Bedford site of the Bedford & Forsyth Education Centres will be closed for snow removal.
