Free online course to help those working with vulnerable children

Local mental health expert, Dr. Michael Ungar is launching a free online course for people working with at-risk youth.

The new online course is called Sharing Promising Practices and will allow a wide range of people working with vulnerable youth to share ideas and learn from others working in the same profession.

“It’s mostly aimed at people who are actually working with kids.” said Ungar who is leading the course.  “That can cover a wide range of people, including foster parents and people who volunteer with youth organizations.”

By holding the course online, he said, it allows those working with youth to take advantage of the effective sharing component the internet is known for and to reach more people.

Ungar added, often times knowledge of best practices isn’t found in text books and academic journals, but learned from others who’ve experienced evidence-based results first hand.

“One of the biggest parts of this course is opportunity for folks to say, what is it that makes a good evidence, what is it that makes a program effective.”

Sharing Promising Practices starts Monday, April 20th.
