Police smash van window to rescue baby left inside

Halifax Regional Police say they smashed the window of a parked minivan to rescue a baby that was left inside.

Officers were called to the area of College and Summer streets around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

“They found a child, approximately 1-year-old, who was crying and seemed to be in distress to them, he was sweating,” staff sergeant Greg Mason told NEWS 95.7. “At that time, they made the decision they needed to break the glass from the window of the car and take the child from inside.”

Police did a quick check for an adult responsible for the child before taking that action, Mason said police were able to find the parents of the boy a short time later.

EHS checked the child over and the Department of Community Services is now investigating.
