This Sunday’s McNabs Island Fall Foliage Tour is sold out, but if you didn’t get a ticket, that doesn’t mean you can’t participate.
Friends of McNabs Island Society chair Catherine McCarthy said if people have arrange their own transportation to the island, they can still join in.
“Look on our website, there’s a list of some of the other boat operators that can take people over,” she told NEWS 95.7.
McCarthy said the group has arranged a biologist to give visitors a better understanding of the environment on the island provincial park, and guest will also be able visit some historic sites.
“A pop bottle factory, also Bill Lynch’s home was on the island, there’s lots of history and military forts,” she explained.
She said that pop bottle factory was established in the early 1900s, producing a popular product called ‘Pure McNab’, which was an alcoholic beverage.
“There was a pretty good clientele on the island in the old days with all the servicemen that were stationed over there during the world wars,” McCarthy said.
She said entrepreneur A. J. Davis must have done well, he built a nice three-story summer home on the island, which is now owned and looked after by the province.
Those who have tickets should arrive at departure locations at Fisherman’s Cove in Eastern Passage and at Murphy’s Cable Wharf by 9:30 a.m. Sunday with the boats leaving at 10 a.m.
