Highway 103 reopens following fatal crash

TANTALLON – Highway 103 has reopened to traffic following an early morning crash Friday.
RCMP say one person died in a crash that shut down Highway 103 for several hours in both directions between Hubbards and Tantallon Friday.
Investigators say a pick-up truck travelling east collided head-on with a five- tonne transport truck heading westbound around 6:10 a.m. between exists 5 and 6 along straight stretch of highway.
Police confirm the driver of the pick-up truck, a 35-year-old man from Martins River, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier information released by the RCMP that there were passengers in the vehicles was incorrect.
The driver of the transport truck, a 44-year-old man from Eastern Passage, was not injured.
Highway 103 was closed for nine hours with traffic re-routed onto Highway 3. The cause of the crash remains under investigation with an RCMP Traffic Reconstruction Analyst assisting with the investigation.
The highway opened to traffic just after 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
