OTTAWA – Atlantic Canada could see some representation in the incoming Liberal’s Cabinet as Prime-Minister designate Justin Trudeau announces his picks at Rideau Hall Wednesday morning.
Newly minted Cabinet Ministers are expected to arrive by bus at the Governor General’s residence for a swearing-in ceremony at 11:30 a.m. AT. But who will be on the bus?
St. Francis Xavier University political professor Jim Bickerton thinks veteran King’s-Hants MP Scott Brison is a shoe-in because of his ministerial experience in the Paul Martin Liberal Government, as well as his recent performance as the party’s finance critic.
Bickerton said there’s also been buzz surrounding Trudeau’s promise for gender parity in cabinet, which could be a bonus for the Atlantic Region in terms of representation.
“I think it’s likely there will be at least one woman cabinet minister out of the 50 per cent that Justin Trudeau’s promised will come from Atlantic Canada,” Bickerton predicted.
“I think that one is mostly likely to come from Newfoundland, I think there are a couple of Liberal MP’s there that will make it in to cabinet.”
Bickerton also predicts New Brunswick’s Dominic Leblanc is a likely pick as well, along with veteran PEI Liberal MP’s Wayne Easter and Lawrence McCaulay.
