The proclamation of whether the donair will become the official food of Halifax rests in the hands of Mayor Mike Savage, however he says there are more pressing issues to deal with.
A staff report expected to go before council tomorrow doesn’t make a recommendation, and says if council wants to make the donair the official food, it can just direct the mayor to do so.
Mayor Savage told Metro Halifax, the donair has been a part of the city for a long time, but it’s just not something he’s putting a lot of time into – except to wipe the sauce off his shirt every now and then.
Councillor Linda Mosher requested the staff report in October, saying the pile of spiced beef could have a positive effect on the province’s international image and tourism industry.
