No snow is no problem for Christmas shoppers

The snow isn’t coming down, but it appears sales are up for the holiday shopping season.

The Retail Council of Canada’s Jim Cormier told NEWS 95.7, the lack of more festive weather doesn’t seem to be hurting sales at the store.

He said a recent report of 60 retailers representing over 10,000 stores coast-to-coast shows sales are up.

“Over 85 per cent of respondent say fall says were higher, over 89 per cent saying that the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales increased 10.6 per cent,” he said.

Cormier added sometimes no snow makes it difficult to motivate shoppers, but the weather could be worse.

“We will take this type of weather over what we had a couple of years ago, when there were ice storms in New Brunswick and last year when they had terrible weather in Southern Ontario,” he explained. “As long as people can get out and do their shopping, retailers are happy.”

He added many businesses have seen a big increase this year from people purchasing products from mobile sites on their smart phones.
